A look back on our transformational year

As we reflect on the incredible milestones and progress we experienced in 2024, it’s encouraging to see more owners, architects, and engineers embrace water recycling as a sustainable water solution for their projects. This year was defined by growth and innovation at Epic Cleantec as we continued to redefine how buildings manage water. From launching new projects to strengthening our partnerships and securing funding for expansion, every step has brought us closer to a future of smarter water use. We’re proud of the impact we’ve made so far and are inspired by the collective effort of our team, partners, clients, and supporters. Join us as we look back on some of the highlights from this transformatively EPIC year!

January

As is typical in the new year, January brought new beginnings for Epic Cleantec. We welcomed our new National Sales Manager, Jonathan Farr, to the team to scale our sales and partnership efforts. But Jonathan wasn’t the only new addition: Epic’s Co-founder and CEO, Aaron Tartakovsky, and Chief Commercial Officer, Eric Hough, both welcomed new additions to their families! 

• Epic is recognized as a 2024 Fastest Growing Impact Company by Real Leaders and awarded the “Intention: Most Valuable Mission” award
• Epic is named to a Top 50 Contech Startups of 2024 in the Green Construction category curated by CEMEX Ventures

February 

In February, we were informed that our partners at the Southwest Sustainability Innovation Engine (SWSIE), led by Arizona State University, were awarded a $15 million grant to help grow the Southwest as a regional hub of economic development catalyzed by sustainability innovation. We were also honored to be featured in a WIRED article discussing the crucial role water recycling technology has in shaping the future of our planet while highlighting some of our projects. 

• Sam Rosenberg joins Epic’s team in San Francisco as our new water reuse operator helping ramp up operations on our projects
• Aaron Tartakovsky joins host Ravi Kurani on the Liquid Assets podcast to highlight how Epic Cleantec aims to catalyze a water reuse revolution.

March

To celebrate Women’s History Month, Epic interviewed several trailblazing women who have left an indelible mark on the water industry and the world as we know it. We also launched our LinkedIn newsletter edition “Close The Loop: Water Reuse” to share the latest news in water reuse, thought leadership, Epic insights and more. Subscribe here!

• Epic Cleantec was recognized among TIME’s list of America’s Top GreenTech Companies 2024
• Epic is featured in a Popular Science article highlighting our soil product

April

To celebrate Earth Month and SF Climate Week, we hosted leaders from across the real estate industry and local government for a fun happy hour event on the 40th floor of our project at Fifteen Fifty, a luxury apartment building owned by our client Related California. We were also invited to join Mayor London Breed for a special climate week celebration. Definitely a highlight to enjoy a recycled water brew with the Mayor and to build an Epic beeramid in the rotunda of City Hall!

• Epic OneWater Brews were proudly on display at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg as part of their “Water Pressure: Designing for the Future” exhibit
• Several members of the Epic team traveled to the Environmental Protection Agency Headquarters in Washington, D.C. to participate in the inaugural Onsite Water Reuse Summit, where the conversation focused on the critical intersection of science, policy, and operation of water reuse technologies
• We launched a new page on our website featuring a comprehensive list of water reuse regulations and guidelines across each U.S. state. This resource empowers readers to navigate the waters of reuse with confidence and ease
• We partnered with Sentral, a leading full-service residential hospitality company, to expand onsite water reuse in their San Francisco projects
• Felipe Cartin Munoz joins the Epic team as our new Wastewater Engineer, bringing years of experience in wastewater projects across the country

May

May is one of our favorite months as we take time to gather together for our annual company retreat! It’s a fantastic opportunity for our team to step away from the daily grind, reconnect with nature, and forge stronger bonds with each other. This year, we focused on aligning our goals, celebrating our recent successes, and brainstorming innovative approaches to further advance sustainability in the built environment. 

• Aaron attends IH2O Startup Summit and participates in a panel discussion at Google alongside Orianna Bretschger of Aquacycl and Roger Berry of Sudoc at the Imagine H2O Startup Summit
• Our OneWater Brew is named a Fast Company World Changing Idea winner in three categories: Sustainability, Advertising, and Food
• Eric Hough presents at the 2024 Emerging Water Technology Symposium co-convened by the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) and Plumbing Manufacturers International (PMI), in cooperation with the World Plumbing Council (WPC)
• Epic is featured in NYT article about the benefits of resource circularity

June

We were ecstatic to announce our partnership with Salesforce in June for the ongoing operation of their building’s groundbreaking blackwater reuse system within the iconic Salesforce Tower, a globally recognized landmark in the heart of San Francisco! The Epic team was tapped to help oversee the final permitting and commissioning of the water reuse system, helping it successfully launch as the largest onsite water reuse system in a commercial building in the United States.

• Epic is named to Inc.’s 2024 Best Workplaces list
• Epic partners with SDAJ to increase visibility in Pacific Northwest of onsite water reuse solutions
• Travis Loop of Waterloop gets an inside tour of the first approved and operational onsite greywater reuse system in San Francisco

July

We launched an O&M referral program in July where referrers can make a positive impact by helping other developments maintain sustainable water management practices and keep their systems healthy. We also updated our wildly popular white paper to include lots of new info and resources about water recycling technology options. Download your copy here!

August

We hosted an educational event at our HQ office in San Francisco to explore innovative strategies for achieving resiliency through water with our partners at USGBC in August. The event featured sessions from industry leaders and water advocates from Salesforce, Glumac, Levi’s Stadium, Epic Cleantec, and SFPUC.

• Co-Founder and CEO, Aaron Tartakovsky joins Fast Company’s Impact Council—a group of visionary leaders dedicated to driving positive change and shaping the future of business and society

September

As Q3 came to a close, Epic was not slowing down! We were thrilled to announce the first installation of our Epic OneWater^TM system in the Los Angeles market at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. This iconic, Forbes 5-Star and LEED Gold certified hotel is renowned for its luxury accommodations and commitment to environmental sustainability. We are excited to partner with such a well-respected hospitality brand to demonstrate how our water reuse technology can play a key role in elevating sustainability as a visible and impactful feature.

• Our VP of Operations, Megan Thomas, and National Sales Manager, Jonathan Farr, took the stage at the 2024 WateReuse Texas Conference in Austin, Texas to discuss how to navigate the new GoPurple regulations
• Epic’s Co-Founder and CEO, Aaron Tartakovsky, presents at the 2024 Blueprint conference to explore the accelerating trend of onsite water reuse in urban environments
• Epic announces partnership with Strada Investment Group to bring one of San Francisco’s first approved greywater reuse systems to life at The Brady
• Epic is featured in a Propmodo article discussing how water conservation plays an overlooked but important role in building decarbonization
• Megan Thomas also participates in H2O Women Conference, and event featuring  leading professionals from diverse industries throughout the water space, presenting and facilitating thought-provoking discussions about the most pressing water issues
• We introduced our financing options to help bring cost-effective pathways to onsite water reuse that aligns with your financial and sustainability goals

October

In a landmark moment for Epic Cleantec, we received an invitation to the White House in October as one of only 20 organizations selected to participate in a highly exclusive roundtable on strengthening national water security and resilience. Epic Cleantec has been at the forefront of advancing water reuse adoption in commercial real estate, and our presence reinforced the critical role of water reuse in addressing climate resilience.

• Aaron participates in Urban Transformation Summit hosted by WEF/Uplink, and speaks on a panel at the Sustainable Brands conference in San Diego 
• We are ecstatic to have had our panel chosen for 2025 SXSW as we continue to elevate water reuse solutions for communities and buildings

November

We celebrated the successful closing of a $12M Series B funding round in November. This milestone will drive our growth—scaling operations, advancing technology, and developing new solutions—while expanding our reach across North America and beyond. We’re proud to empower our clients to conserve water, reduce costs, and stay ahead of ever-evolving regulations, all while contributing to a more sustainable future.

• Epic OneWater^TM system is named a Fast Company 2024 Next Big Things in Tech
• Epic awarded 2024 Frost & Sullivan Transformational Innovation Leadership Award
• We hosted a happy hour event in Austin, TX to close out a great year and raise a glass to water recycling, sustainability, and innovation in resilience
• We celebrated the two year anniversary of our Epic OneWater system and Epic OneWater Brew

December

To cap off a wonderfully eventful year, we are looking to make a splash in 2025 by adding three new positions to our outstanding team: wastewater project manager, applications engineer, and a water reuse operator. • Epic’s project, the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, was selected to receive a California Green Building Award for Merit in the water category and highlighted at the annual Green Gala event. Our project is now proudly listed on their EcoMapCA which serves as the go-to resource for all things sustainable in the greater Los Angeles region
• Epic Cleantec named to Inc.’s 2024 Best in Business list

As another year closes, we’re filled with gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead. The progress we’ve made is a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to sustainability. While the challenges of the future are great, so too is our resolve to create meaningful impact. As we look to the new year, we’re energized by the opportunities to expand our reach, forge new partnerships, and continue transforming the way communities think about water and resource reuse.
