Drinking beer brewed from someone else’s old bathwater does not sound pleasant. But that was exactly what first attracted Aaron Tartakovsky to the idea. When, in 2016, he heard about a pioneering group in north-west America using highly purified, treated wastewater to make beer, he hoped that he could one day do the same.

“I remember thinking at the time how cool of a concept it was to take something that so many of us have a visceral ‘yuck’ reaction to, and make it into something as friendly and approachable as beer,” he says. “The seed was planted.”
